DOE Awards More Than $7 Million for Greater Access to University Nuclear Training Facilities

​DOE is awarding $7.4 million to 8 projects at 7 universities in 6 states to improve university nuclear research reactors and share state-of-the-art training facilities with non-reactor owning educational institutions. The projects are awarded under the following funding opportunities:

University Nuclear Research Infrastructure Revitalization – Awards Purdue University $6 million to support the revitalization of university nuclear facilities and equipment at three universities through a consortium to enhance university-led nuclear R&D.

University Reactor Sharing and Outreach Program – Awards $200,000 to universities with existing nuclear research reactors to support the sharing of resources and facilities with educational institutions that currently do not have access to research reactors, such as K-12 schools, vocational schools, community colleges, or other colleges and universities. DOE is announcing 7 awards totaling $1.4 million to:

· Purdue University

· Texas A&M University

· University of Florida

· University of Maryland - College Park

· University of New Mexico

· University of Texas at Austin
